Wikipedia Wrap up

Hello wikipedia editors,
Over the course of the semester I made 3 edits to the following wikipedia pages: Newton, Ma, Newton North High School, Dodge and Grupo Modelo. I will go over each of the blogs and say what has happened since I began editing them. In all the pages, there was changes made that effect grammar, content, and pictures. The majority of my edits were actually not changed. I did make one experiment where I made my own page on wikipedia. I copy pasted the html from another person's page and created my own content. The page was down, the next time I checked.

Newton, Ma: In this blog there has been about 75 edits since I began editing the page. I believe that two of the three edits that I made are still standing. Edits to this page are made about once per every one to three days. Gaps of about a week can be found in between edits at times.

Newton North High School: In this blog there has been about 100 edits since I began editing the page. I believe that three of the three edits that I made are still standing. Edits to this page are made about once per every one to three days, they are also made in bunches, With some gaps of week or so in between.

Grupo Modelo: In this blog there has been just under one hundred edits since I began editing the page. I believe that all of edits are still standing. Edits to this page are made about once per every one to three days.

Dodge: In this blog there has been about 60 edits since I began editing the page. I believe that three of the three edits that I made are still standing. Edits to this page are made about once per every one to three days, similar to Newton North High School, they are also made in bunches. Some times there is a gap of week in between.

At first the edits were a drag, but it is pretty cool that most of my edits are still there. All in all it was a worth while project. I also didnt know if any one else saw the article were one of the co-founders said that the web site was a diaster and it was not how he intended it to turn out? I can not find it any more but it is interesting if any wants to try to look for it.

Modern Media

Hello,
This blog is pertaining to the Media changes. The class discussion and powerpoints talk about how there is now fragmentation, integration, time shifting and mobile media. I would go and say that I agree with all of these expect mobile media. I believe that the mobile media will grow more from what it is today while telephone makers make the screens and interface easier for users to use it. But I think that there is a limit to the growth. Hand held devices will never equal the computer. I believe it may be come a good supplement for the computer, but will never be used in the same way. That is all for me.

Until the next insight.....

Benefits of HTML coding

Hello,
I am going to be talking about benefits of learning at least the basics of HTML coding. I think this is something that should be taught more vigourously in school for every major. We all should be required to take an entire class where we build our own web site. It should be done much like this class has been run except for instead of creating your own blog you create your own web site. Personally it is one area that I have truly missed. I need to use my basic knowledge of coding and tried to at least have something there for people to view. Thank you to classes like this one, I just wish it went a little further.

Dodge edit # 3

Dodge lovers here it is again,
I have made my third and final edit to the Dodge Wikipedia page. I once again made the edit to the History section of the page. In this edit I added a two sentences that talked about Dodge's first year in business. The added entry was written like this, "In that first year, Dodge introduced the "Old Betsy," a rugged car built for reliability and durability. That year Dodge built a total of 249 new cars."

Stay tuned for a wrap up blog.....

Dodge edit # 2

hello dodge lovers,
I made my third edit to the Dodge page of wikipedia in the History section. In this edit I added the where the Dodge brothers were located prior to moving to Detroit Michigan. I added the phrase, "from Windsor, Ontario, Canada where they were making intricate auto parts." That is all but the next edit is just around the corner, so beware.

Comment on Ryan Dzielak Steve Nash edit

Hello basketball fans,
I am responding to Ryan Dzielak blog regarding Steve Nash's 2006-7 season. Ryan mentions that Dirk Nowtiski received the MVP award. Although he was the best player on the best team, I believe Dirk did not deserve the award. Canadian born, Steve Nash was the real MVP. He was the most valuable player, without him the Pheonix Suns would not be where they are. If you take any other star player off the team, the team would not falter as much. That is my piece, but who am I, a lonely blogger.

Hello all readers,
As promised I have made my third and final edit to the Grupo Modelo wikipedia page. I

To all a hello,

Comments on Laura Kerigs blog about google

Hello,
In Laura Kerig's Blog, "Google: How far is too far" she asks the question of whether or not Google is going to far with the about of information they collect on it's users. In particular she talks about the tracking of peoples search preferences. I think this is a big issue and I am glad that she addressed it. I believe that Google has no bad intentions when collecting data about their users. They are probably actually doing it as a means to make their website the most useful it can be, in order to generate loyalty and greater page hits. So I do not fault the company, I do however believe that some of these services are getting extremely instrusive. I believe that if they are doing things such as Google is, it should be clear to the user what is happening. If the user agrees, then it is fine, if not, then the service should stop.

Until later... stuiqxela

Newton North Wikipedia Edit

Hello,
I have made a new update to the Newton North High School on the wikipedia web site. I made a small change to the Notable Alumni section of page. I corrected the grammatical area of not capitalizing the word "most" after a period. I changed it to "He most" thus correcting the error. Keeping checking in for more thrilling updates such as this one.

Starting your own business

Hello all,
It's me again and I am back to rant about starting your own business. This topic has come to me since we have had so many speakers come into our class and talk to us about their companies. When the guy from hostmysite came into to speak, I was not listening the actual components of what his company does or what it did or the fact that customer service was how they made their name, I was listening to what steps one has to take in order to start a business. I know when you take classes in the business school they teach you to make a business plan and start from their but I think we should be learning more; like how to incorporate, or how to name a company, or how to raise capital for the endeavour. Why is their no classes that I am aware of at this school that teach you these things? I think that everyone in the business school should all be required to take an entrepreneurial course.

Until next time.... stiuqxela

Second Life?

Hello All,
Sorry for the long break in blogs, but I am back and better than ever. In reading the article that included talk about Second Life I was fascinated by a couple of things. Number one, it is amazing how much traction this website already has. They already have five million registered users, half of which are women, which is pretty incredible. Number two, when I got to thinking about Second Life, I was dumbfounded as to how this many people can get into this Internet life. We should all be concentrating on our first lives before we can just give up and live on the computer. It is great what technology has done for many of the things life but I feel the problem is before long none of us will actually be living our lives, we will have computers to live it for us. That's my rant!

Stay tuned.... stiuqxela

Hello All,
Sorry for the break in interesting blogs that I have been writing but I am back! I have made an edit to the Grupo Modelo Wikipedia page. I added to the end of the Corona section the text, "Corona has also come out with a Corona Light which is the first Grupo Modelo lager to have a light conterpart. Although it is targeted mostly to the U.S. it is also brewed in Mexico."

Ben Gruber Blog: Devaluation of Online Advertising

Hello All,
In the blog "Devaluation of Online Advertising" written by Dorian Sweet, he address the issue of why is online advertising so hot and what will keep it going. I thought this article was extremely interesting because these are two of the questions that I constantly think about when it comes to online advertising. I think that, it is the fad now, but will it continue or phase out? In the blog Dorian Sweet answers this question by claiming that media consumption is no longer an option for people. He claims that is a necessity and that we need it, like an addiction. I do agree with this opinion and see the evidence of this in my every day life when my roommates come directly in door and straight to their computer to get their fix.

I also thought it was interesting when he talks about what marketers have to do to continue the effectiveness of online advertising. Dorian Sweet mentions 4 main points to consider when advertising online. They are to keep a close eye on what your customer is doing online, make sure to track your ads, to trust and use the information you get from tracking the ads, and to remain creative. Although I believe that these are all extremely important things to do when advertising online, I feel that being creative will be the key to the success of ads in the future. Once people have seen all the ads and are saturated with them, creativity will once again rain supreme when it comes to success.

Hello Everyone (Especially Newtonites),

Ben Gruber Blogg on Intellectual Property

Hello Everyone,
I read the article from the Onion called
"Viacom Demands YouTube Pull 400,000 Ex-TV Viewers From Its Site" and I thought that it was a pretty good satire of how two big companies are battling over intellectual property over the Internet. The real issue is that Viacom wants YouTube a video sharing website to pull all of the licensed material that Viacom owns after failed contract agreements on revenue rights led to tension between the companies. YouTube has trouble policing its site which Viacom is pursuing this flaw legally. The joke of the article states that Viacom is saying that they want Youtube to give back their 400,000 viewers. "Viacom demanded that YouTube immediately pull 400,000 ex-TV viewers from its industry-leading video-sharing site."

I enjoyed the satire because it is so hard to police and set up laws when it comes to the Internet which I believe is going to be a huge problem in the future as more and more businesses move online and greater revenues are gained through the Internet and taken away from traditional media. Who is going to set these guidelines? Who is going to make sure they are followed? And how is that going to work over country boarders as the Internet is worldwide? These are all questions that I can not answer but are looking forward to see how they play out in the future.

Cluetrain Manifesto

In class we sometimes talk about the Cluetrain Manifesto. It is a book that in a way predicted and outlined the future of the web which is higher levels of communication and information transparency. I have read this book and find it pretty amazing that the authors very nearly did predict the social networking phenomenon. I also agree completely with the fact that the more transparency and open levels of communication can help both consumers and businesses. Consumers will not have to be believe exactly what the company says about their products which helps them make a more informed decision about buying. While this may seem like it hurts companies, it actually can help them. Companies can now not only reach a wider audience but can also have more direct contact with their potential customers, which opens up the doors for new marketing and advertising concepts.

As far as marketing goes for me, it is very exciting. I like to come up with new creative ways to reach customers. I do not always like conventional ways of advertising. Since this is a relatively new medium of connecting with customers, I feel like the possibilities are still pretty endless.

Social Networking is definitly the future

After reading the blog Facebook's Astounding Stats by Shel Holtz, I found that my previous thoughts on social networking have been absolutely correct. I worked for a start-up social networking company this summer called Metrowize which is based out of San Francisco and involves the nightlife there. At this internship, I learned the marketing and advertising power that web sites where users must sign in have. The data these sites collect allow them to put together a media kit that offers perspective advertisers targeted ads that only are viewed by people who they want to see them. This is great two fold because then users do not receive ads that are not relevant and advertisers are not wasting money on ads that do not reach their target market. Anyways this article brings to light the growth that these sites are experiencing (which you can see at facebook's blog) which leads me to my next revelation, which is that I either need to figure out a new niche social networking site or come up with a good company that can utilize the effectiveness of this kind of advertising.

Until next time....Stay tuned for more helpful insight that will make your head swell!

Hello All,
I have made an update and edit to the Newton North High School page of the wikipedia.com site. The url is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newton_North_High_School#Physical_plan. The change that I made was actually an addition. In wikipedia's description of the physical plan they failed to mention the extra gym that is located on the fourth floor of the building. The gym is called the SOA which stand for "Simulated Outdoor Area."

Stay Tuned for further updates. My username for wikipedia.com is bennygubear if you would like to observe my edits on the site.
